A group of Troop 598 scouts and parents explored the forest area right here in town completing the 4+ mile Puyallup Loop Trail.

Polar Bear Plunge (December 2019)

Yes, it was that Polar Bear Plunge time of the year again! The Scouts in Troop 598 successfully washed 2019 out of their system with a double dip in the Puget Sound this morning. After successfully completing first frosty foray into the water, once everyone was ashore we did an about-face and backed up our daring/idiotic feat.

Why? you ask… ANYONE can accidentally run out into the freezing water once, but it takes a SPECIAL kind of crazy to do it twice!!!

Polar Bear Plunge (December 2018)

More dads than Scouts were on hand to take the plunge this morning at Point Defiance/Owen Beach. The temperature was a balmy 31 degrees when the small group made their way to the water’s edge … and then beyond. Kudos to Ben and Justin (and Ryan of course) for being bold enough to splash in the new year.

And as always it takes a special kind of crazy to dry off and then run into the Puget Sound the second time. Awesome!!!

Puyallup City Council meeting – July 10, 2018

Scouts from Troop 598 were recognized during the July 10 Puyallup City Council meeting for their service with flags at Woodbine Cemetery in observance of Memorial Day. Another nice award was presented to the Troop by representatives from the American Legion Post 67, which is the Troop’s charter sponsor.

American Legion lunch – June 24, 2018

Meeker Creek tree planting project 2018

Scouts from Troop 598 helped plant willow and alder shoots (trimmed from branch sections) and mulch around previous plantings Jan. 27 at the Meeker Creek water improvement project in Puyallup. This year the work was on the south side of the waterway, where prior projects had been on the far bank.

As these trees grow, the shade they provide will help cool the water to increase oxygen content in the area where it has been designed to slowly meander and deposit silt residue before it supplies Clarks Creek and eventually the Puyallup River. These changes should better support the returning salmon that use the system for spawning.
