Troop 598 wrapped up the season’s swag sales in the corner of the Cattin’s parking lot. The foul weather proved challenging as most of the foot traffic from the Victorian Country Christmas consisted of shoppers focused on returning directly to their vehicles.

A few scouts from Troop 598 braved the rain and wind to sell swags to folks leaving the Victorian Country Christmas at the fairgrounds Dec. 6. The booth was set up in the Cattins parking lot and the scouts greeted shoppers as they waited for the light. Ealy hours slump changed to boom as the scouts sold out the entire inventory putting a wrap on the Christmas swags fundraiser for 2014. Great job Troop 598!

A few scouts from Troop 598 ventured north to the crafts fair at Northwood Elementary to kick off the swag sales. The sales were spotty, but the event gave the scouts an opportunity to gain confidence through experience talking with strangers in a sales situation. It took some of the scouts longer to break out of their shells, but it certainly was beneficial to all involved.

Many scouts from Troop 598 gathered to begin production of the holiday swags they are selling around the community. The first step was sorting the Noble Fir boughs into three size categories. Large boughs were carefully paired with two smaller boughs so that the trio made a pleasing shape. These groupings were brought to the crimping table where a splash of Cedar foliage was added and then all was bound by strong wire with a hanging loop attached. The assembled swags were counted and neatly stacked to absorb moisture in the next few weeks. Work also began on prepping pine cones that will be added with a ribbon bow just before delivery.

Some of the holiday swags will be available for sale at a holiday bazaar on North Hill and the rest will be delivered just before Thanksgiving.
